Congratulations! You receive your University of St. La Salle admission card where your course and section are proudly written: BABA1*. You wonder why you are in this section. You’re excited to e-meet your classmates. You wonder what BABA stands for.
You want to prepare but don’t know how to start. You visit the JPIA-USLS Facebook page almost everyday to be updated and get inspiration. Don’t stress yourself, CPA aspirant.
So you’re a BABA student. What’s next?
BS Accountancy is one of the flagship programs of the University of St. La Salle. You will feel the pressure from your professors. Prepare to transform from a coal to a diamond. Take care of yourself— physically, mentally, spiritually. Enjoy the learning process.
Thoughts of not being able to make it through the program may fill your mind right now, even before starting the first day of class. Acknowledge them. But also let thoughts of completing the program enter your mind. You’re just starting and there’s a long journey ahead. Practice visualization. If you haven’t tried it yet, then let’s do a quick one.
Visualize.
Inhale deeply. Exhale deeply. Now, remember the reason why you enrolled in this course. Is it because you want to bring pride to yourself and your family as the first CPA in the clan? Do you want to continue the lineage of CPAs in the family? Do you want to learn commercial law and taxation to prepare yourself for Law School? Do you simply love to crack numbers and feel that in order to master Accounting, one needs a high aptitude in Mathematics? Do you want to be an inspiring Accounting professor? Is becoming the next Commission on Audit Chairperson your dream? Are you pressured by your family to take up Accounting in order to manage the family business or set-up a new business venture? Whatever your reason may be, hold on to it.
Next, add adjectives to your vision. Describe it. Even if you’re unsure of what you want, make a picture of your desired end state, with the feeling that you have as of the moment.
Now are you ready?
Imagine the sound of applause, Thank you‘s, You’re welcome‘s, your name being called…
Imagine the smell of the floral garland on your neck as you receive compliments, the scent of mild perfume as you freshen up for the graduation rites…
Imagine the taste of delectable food on your thanksgiving party, the salty-sweet sweat after perfecting your final exam, Vizco’s strawberry cake as you celebrate your first birthday as a CPA…
Imagine the smiles of your proud parents and siblings, the congratulatory email of your benefactor, the open arms of your teachers as they approach to give you a warm cuddle…
Now, inhale deeply again. Let the air flow through your respiratory system. Exhale deeply. A goal without a plan is just a wish, right? So act on your dream. Read your learning materials. Share your insights with your classmates. Ask help and offer help. Engage in healthy discussions. Life is movement. You won’t grow without making the necessary steps to become who you want to be.
